|Since the United Nations Population Fund estimated the world’s population has reached 7 billion, ‘New York Times’ asked a photographer who has spent years covering women’s health issues worldwide, to picture women giving birth in a maternity ward in India. This picture is made at the biggest maternity ward (Kasturba Hospita) of New Delhi. The hospital, which has about 350 maternity beds, delivers from 30 to 50 babies every day. Photography Lynsey Addario (also 7 months pregnant: “It’s scary to see those things when I’m about to deliver. My first reaction was: Oh my God. I don’t want this baby and I don’t want to have to deliver it. But obviously, there’s no turning back.”NYT Project Picturing 7 Billion Via Siebe Tettero
