Mad involvement No Comments

| I just watched the intelligent and tense movie ‘The Hurt Locker’, that questions the occupation of America in Iraq. It is almost unbelievable that the director is a woman. Kathryn Bigelow directed this macho depiction of a US army bomb disposal man in post-invasion Iraq. She wants to emphasize the never abandoning need for a peace resolution. Will she become the first woman to win the best director Oscar?

A swarm of pixels in a space No Comments
|

| MIT researchers developed a display system with flying pixels, in collaboration with ARES (Aerospace Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory). Click here to see Flyfire: a large number of self-organizing micro-helicopters with small LEDs that act as a smart pixel. Through precisely controlled movements, the helicopters perform synchronized motions that may transform a two-dimensional image into an articulated shape.

| The Designpreis Deutschland 2010 in gold goes to guesthouse Berge by Nils Holger Moormann. There is no television, no internet access, no telephone and no good mobile phone reception, but lots of time to read, cook or even knit (with certified organic eco-friendly cotton). The most beautiful items that are especially designed for Berge, are for sale.

| In 2006 Nils Holger Moormann designed this sophisticated shed, which invites one to live outdoors, with a safe campfire in the swinging cauldron. At the upper level is a bed, so you can count the stars under a sliding sun roof. Wonderful!
