Spree Lichtung |

| Concept, name, interior and art project for a student housing, a ‘Wohnkunstwerk’ in Berlin.  Lichtung means open space in a forest, and is referring to the former forest Plänterwald at the river Spree. The village is designed as a small campus with five building blocks, made from recycled shipping containers. Building a community is not about building only, so we’ve invited the students to lend their creativity to our art-project. Each container shall be outfitted with roller blinds, printed with their collective art piece. Collaboration with Arons & Gelauff   Spree Lichtung is finalist at the EBA51 competition

architecture |

| The carefully arranged container-blocks, with thick glass walls, eliminate railway noise and lie around a central space which refers to ‘Lichtung’ (German for an open place in a forest). In the middle a small park is created where students can meet or find a quiet place to study. Sketch Matilde Archer, student

Interior |

| The interior lay-out offers a stretched space, subdivided into three parts: 1 socialize 2 cook, wash, sleep 3 study

relax, eat, wash, sleep, study |

| With specific colors different ares are created in the hotdog-shaped containers. Left Kitchen and dining area, directed towards the courtyard, stimulating social interaction. The yellow color stimulates eating. Middle Intimate space with bedroom and bathroom. The bed is a standard Ikea-product that comfortably sleeps one, and may convert into a double bed, just in case. The color green gives energy in the morning. Right A place for concentration, contemplation and relaxation. The color light blue soothes and makes a small room look more spacious. Sketches Francesca Foresi, student
